Amazon has just announced their newest Kindle. Actually, their newest Kindles – there are now two models to choose from. Firstly there is the Kindle Wi-Fi for $139 (available in graphite) and then there is the Kindle 3G + Wi-Fi for $189 (available in graphite or white).

The main advantages over the previous 6″ model include a new high-contrast display with 50% better contrast and crisper, darker fonts; 21% smaller body whilst keeping the same 6″ size reading area; 17% lighter; battery life of up to a month; double the storage (now up to 3500 books); 20% faster page turns; enhanced PDF reader and a new Web-Kit based browser.

New Kindle covers are also available. Choose between a cover with or without a built-in light ($59.99 & $ 34.99 respectively). Covers are available in black, burnt orange, chocolate brown, hot pink, steel blue, apple green and burgundy red.

Worth the upgrade? Well, I’ve loved my Kindle so much I’m definitely upgrading!! Pre-orders are now open and the release date has been set for 27 August.
